How does it work?
Children undertake to read books, or do other literacy-based activities, in return for pledges of money, for charity, from family and friends.
How easy?
We give you everything you need, in our free pack, to run a successful Readathon. Teachers who run Readathon for the first time are amazed at how easy it is and find it almost runs itself.
How long?
The average Readathon lasts about three weeks from giving out the sponsor forms to collecting the money. Some schools ask children to read during the holidays, some run it in school time. One even had a 24 hour marathon read.
What now?
Click the Join now button. We’ll send you everything you need in the free Readathon pack at the beginning of whichever term you choose to run your Readathon. |

You can run your Readathon whenever you like. It’s ideal for Children’s Book Week (starts 1st October 2007)

Children read more books and their appetite for reading improves considerably.
They learn the value of helping others.
Parents are very happy with all the extra reading activity generated by Readathon.
Any teacher who runs three or more Readathons receives a testimonial from the National Reading Campaign in recognition of their commitment to reading.
All the money collected by your school goes to charities who support sick children in your area.

Every Y7 pupil has participated, rising to the challenge of reading more than they would usually, and often different types of texts by authors they were not familiar with, all with the aim of enhancing their reading skills. Pupils who weren’t sponsored with money still joined in with real enthusiasm and commitment to their reading, so there was plenty to be gained all round.
