The latest Readathon campaign for 2006~2007 raised £900,000 This brings our total since we started in 1984, to over £21 million. Many thanks to all the schools, teachers, parents and especially the children who made it happen.
Readathon was founded in 1984 to encourage children to read more books. We believed then, and we still do, that the book deserves passionate support in the face of opposition from electronic wizardry. The stimulus books give to children's imaginations is far too important to lose.
Readathon has helped to encourage millions of children to read recreationally. We believe that our successful record is due to the fact that children naturally like reading: they also want to help other children.
We keep our fund raiser's costs to a minimum because we receive support from booksellers, children's publishers, and many organisations concerned with books and reading. |

Money raised by Readathon in Scotland and Northern Ireland is spent exclusively on sick children in those areas. |

| All the money raised by Readathon is shared equally between two charities, The Roald Dahl Foundation and CLIC Sargent. The charities meet all the costs of the promotion, not covered by sponsorship, and also pay Readathon Promotions Ltd. an administration fee and commission. On average 74% of money raised is available to help children and their families. |
