Talking about recently published SATS results, the Schools Minister, Nick Gibb, speaks of how important reading for pleasure is for a child's education:
"It is critical that children read for pleasure. All primary school children should have a reading book on the go at home. Evidence from around the world indicates that the more a child reads, the better their attainment in all subjects – not just reading – will be."
We've long believed this at Readathon. Our simple, sponsored read is sometimes the catalyst that gets a child into reading, for good.

Readathon, in partnership with Scholastic Book Clubs, has given over £100,000 worth of free books to its participating schools this year.
As school budgets come under increasing pressure, and libraries across the country face closure, the new offer of free books to schools taking part in Readathon could not have come at a better time.
In league with Scholastic Book Clubs, we have helped schools get the latest titles, providing even more reading opportunities for children.
Happy reading, everyone!

Julia Donaldson, children's author and the current Children's Laureate, loves Readathon and says about it:
"Inspiring children to read is one of the greatest gifts you can give them. I'd recommend Readathon to anyone."
