We enjoyed Readathon very much and it tied in extremely well with this year's focus on reading.

What people are saying about Readathon

I'd like to thank you for all the materials you sent, especially the posters and ideas for assembly, all have come in very useful.

Secondary School, Thornbury

What people are saying about Readathon

I love the fact that you're raising money doing something that I love. I'm going to try to beat my own record from last year which was 23 books.

Pupil, Secondary school, Grantham

What people are saying about Readathon

I had all but given up on trying to get my daughter (Year 4) to read but this has given her the push she needed. We can't stop her now. Thank you."

Get ready for Readathon 2009 – 2010
We’ve been asking teachers and librarians who run Readathon regularly what we can do to make this year’s campaign the best ever. We’ve taken onboard all their advice and are starting to put their suggestions into action.

For starters, we have put together two short films (they run for about 7 minutes) about Readathon – which are available to view and download from this site now. They are designed to be shown to your pupils as you start Readathon to help explain what it’s all about and fire them up to take part.  One is aimed at Primary School pupils and features Michael Rosen while the other, which is fronted by Anthony Horowitz, is aimed at Secondary/Senior School pupils. Walker Books have kindly sponsored both films and we hope lots of schools will make good use of them. You can view the films online or download them - to take a look simply click here.

We've also launched the Readathon Joke Book project in. We believe telling jokes is an important literacy skill and we're asking teachers to help us collect pupils favourite jokes for a forthcoming Readathon Jokebook. To find out more about the project and how your school can get involved, click here.

We’re changing our website too – making it easier to use with more information, more resources and more fun things to do. As you can see we’ve already changed the way it looks and we’ll be adding lots more content in the coming months.

And we've designed new sponsorship cards – or “reading passports” as we call them. These have always been one of the most popular things in the Readathon Pack but this year we’ve made them even better and given them a new look. We’ve created different designs for Keystage 1, 2 and 3 pupils.

Over the next six months we’ll be increasing our resources for both schools and parents. Our Parents' Guides are now available as downloads from this website and we’re busy developing other useful materials which will be available soon.

We are also working with several children’s publishers to provide every child who takes part in Readathon with their own bookmark. These are full colour on both sides for junior and secondary schools while our youngest bookworms will get one with either a picture to colour in or a spot-the- difference on one side.

And that’s not all. In fact, it’s just the beginning of what promises to be a really exciting year.More will be revealed soon… so watch this space!
